Annual Merit Badges
What: Merit Badges, Merit Badge, Merit Badges!
Where: Troop Meetings and Events
Basic Info: Every year the troop works on Merit Badges together, either in Troop Meetings or on trips. In 2021-22 this included Model Railroad, Digital Technology, Music, Chess, Personal Management, First Aid, Nuclear Science, Cycling, Astronomy, Wilderness First Aid, and Canoeing.
Annual Eagle Scout Celebrations
What: Eagle Scouts
Where: Camp Stevens
Basic Info: Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of Scouts have earned this rank after a lengthy review process. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges. The Eagle Scout must demonstrate Scout Spirit, an ideal attitude based upon the Scout Oath and Law, service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages.

What: Court of Honor
Where: Camp Stevens
Basic Info: A formal bi-annual ceremony to celebrate rank and Merit Badge achievements with family and friends.

What: 20 Mile Bike Ride
Where: Varies, but in 2022 VA Creeper Trail
Basic Info: For the Bicycling Merit Badge, the most popular route is a mostly downhill trail in VA, called the Virginia Creeper Trail. The Troop usually does this every three years.

What: Backpacking
Where: All over!
Basic Info: Scouts start their first year learning how to prepare, plan, pack, and execute successful camping and backpacking trips. Recent locations included Glacier National Park, a ten mile hike over Black Balsam Bald off the Blue Ridge Parkway, and even descending into a TN cave.

What: Cave Camping
Where: TN
Basic Info: Nearly every three years, the troop combines a trip to the Nuclear Science Museum in Oak Ridge, TN for the Nuclear Science MB with a backpacking trip into a cave. The scouts get muddy spelunking, take a boat ride, and feed fish in America’s largest underground lake.
November
What: Klondike Derby
Where: Grandfather Mountain
Basic Info: Each patrol builds a sled, collects materials and equipment, and prepares to embark on the Klondike and participate as a team in a derby, displaying skills at each stop. We ensure all scout are prepared for rain, snow, and cold.
December
What: Wreaths Across America Fundraiser
Where: WNC Veterans Cemetery
Basic Info: We are joining forces with Wreaths Across America to make sure that every Veteran’s grave site at the WNC Veterans Cemetery is decorated for the Holidays. Each Scout will receive $5 deposited into their camp account for each wreath that they sell.
September & May
What: Troop 26/4026 Annual BBQ
Where: Camp Stevens
Basic Info: We cook up some delicious BBQ in a huge smoker located outside our building. The public can purchase either a combo meals or 1 lb and 2 lb containers.
June / Summer Trip #1
What: Summer Camp
Where: Varies, but recently Camp Rainey
Basic Info: We depart from Camp Stephens on Sunday morning, returning the following Saturday. afternoon on Sunday. Scouts have 5 Merit Badge sessions over four days, with Thursday being reserved for two longer sessions of the scouts preference. This is a great way to complete Merit Badges while having tons of fun.
Summer Trip #2
What: Week long trip
Where: TBD!
Basic Info: The Troop has at least two week long trips each summer year. Usually one is a scout summer camp and the other might be a Scout Adventure Base like Boundary Water, MN (2022) or another beautiful place like Glacier National Park (2021).
Scout Jamboree
What: National Jamboree (and others)
Where: BSA Adventure Base in West Virginia
Basic Info: Over the course of 10 summer days, once every four years, BSA gathers together. Scouts and Scouters who attend will explore all kinds of adventures—stadium shows, pioneer village, Mount Jack hikes, adventure sports and more—in the heart of one of nature’s greatest playgrounds. With 10,000 acres at the Summit to explore, there’s no shortage of opportunities to build Scouting memories.
